Mijalkov’s defense reacts on allegations of “close ties with Israel”
Skopje, 25 December 2021 (MIA) – The defense attorney of the former secret police head, Sasho Mijalkov, said Saturday they sent a letter to the Israeli ambassador after their client was ordered another 30-day detention for being considered a flight risk “due to close ties with Israel’s intelligence services.”
Earlier this week, the Criminal Court in Skopje ordered that Mijalkov be put in 30-day detention shortly after being released on bail by the Appellate Court in relation to a different case.
“The Criminal Court’s decision reads that he is considered a flight risk because Mijalkov has been in contact having close ties with the intelligence services in Israel that might help him flee whenever he wants without a passports and offer him shelter,” Mijalkov’s attorney Zvonko Davidovic told reporters on Saturday.
He called the allegations “absurd and unseen”. “Such arguments need to be proven,” said Davidovic.
“A name of a country was mentioned and we have to check and show the public the level our judiciary is at,” the attorney said criticizing the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Criminal Court.
Davidovic said he expects the Israeli embassy to look into the information before “issuing a rebuttal or releasing a public statement.”
