Skopje, 2 January 2025 (MIA) - PM Hristijan Mickoski in a New Year's interview with MIA reveals the government is in final talks with a company from a powerful EU member-state over an investment worth between EUR 350-360 million, operating in the sector of advanced technologies, namely battery production. He announces that 2025 will be a successful year in terms of attracting foreign investments.
"I can reveal we're in final talks with a company from an European member country that is very powerful. We're negotiating an advanced technology investment, worth between EUR 350-360 million, namely in battery production, which is considered the future in Europe and across the world. There is also an investment of an existing quality investor with a large share in export, which is expected in January to reveal whether it will expand its investment here. It will mean a lot for the Macedonian economy. We are shortlisted together with the US state of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania and Macedonia are in the running for this investment. We are working daily on this," says Mickoski.
Asked whether the foreign investments model will be changed, he says it is being changed as regards legal provisions and financial support adding it won't be drastically different than before. According to him, efforts are made to diversify the investment portfolio in branches having high added value.
"What should challenge us is where we see the Macedonian economy in this regard in 10, 15, 20 years from now. This type of attracting foreign investments, launched some 20 years ago, is already being exhausted reaching its peak. We should consider diversification, changing the whole portfolio in the future and where we see the Macedonian economy in the future regarding foreign direct investments," stresses Mickoski.
