Skopje, 11 July 2024 (MIA) – For a long time, the region and Macedonia as a country were hostages of the past. It’s time for us to focus on the future and what comes next. We need to make Macedonia proud again and restore pride in the Balkans. We must be good neighbours, understand each other and cooperate. This is what the citizens want from us, and this will be my focus as Prime Minister in the coming years, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said in Washington.

Mickoski, who is in Washington for the NATO’s 75th anniversary summit, informed that he spoke with the Montenegrin Prime Minister, the Croatian President, and the Hungarian Prime Minister today, and highlighted his meetings with the Bulgarian and Albanian Prime Ministers.

“Leading the Macedonian delegation, I can say that we had an incredibly dynamic day, filled with many meetings and engagements on the sidelines of the NATO Summit. Today, we held talks with the Prime Minister of Montenegro, the President of Croatia and the Prime Minister of Hungary. I would also like to highlight our discussions with Italian Prime Minister Meloni and Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez, who seated next to me at the dinner hosted by US President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden,” Mickoski noted.

Among other things, as he stated, the message he conveyed is that “the time for bent backs, corrupt politicians, and politicians who are willing to protect their own corruption and crime, has ended.”

“The second message I sent is that the time of bending backs, of corrupt politicians from Macedonia, and of those willing to do anything in the name of protecting their own corruption and crime has ended. They would sign anything, accept any humiliation offered to them, just to shield their criminal actions. That era is now history and the past. We must speak as true partners and neighbors because partnership and good-neighborliness are two-way streets, and we want to nurture that and view it in that way,” Mickoski added. 

He emphasized that they will give their utmost to restore lost dignity.

Once again, I want to send a big message: Macedonia, we love you and be proud because we are doing everything possible to restore the lost dignity from the past seven years. This effort is not just happening here in Washington, but across the world, as we were represented by politicians who, thankfully for the citizens, are now part of the past, he noted.
