Mickoski: VMRO-DPMNE's position on constitutional amendments clear, alleged change of position is a spin

Skopje, 14 June 2023 (MIA) - VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said he had clearly stated the position at the leaders' meeting with Prime Minister and SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski last Wednesday - that the party will support constitutional amendments only if they have a delayed effect, i.,e. if they come into force when the country becomes a member of the European Union.

"When it becomes a member of the big family, then Bulgarians will be welcomed in the Preamble of the Constitution... If it takes three years, what is the problem for Bulgarians to wait three years to become part of our Constitution," Mickoski said in an interview with Alfa TV.

He added that in the past week after the leaders' meeting "we see spinning and twisting the truth and even lying" by SDSM and DUI and by smaller political parties saying that VMRO-DPMNE agreed on constitutional changes, noting that there are not 80 MPs to accept the amendments.

"The goal with such lying and alleged change of position is that they think VMRO-DPMNE will get a negative perception among some voters, and it will reduce VMRO-DPMNE's potential and transfer the difference to smaller "vulture" political parties, who pretend to be fake oppositionists," said Mickoski.

He added that the country was "stuck" on the path to full-fledged EU membership and therefore VMRO-DPMNE, "aware of the processes and the future of Macedonia and the people", was constructive and proactive and has offered a solution that is not humiliating.

"We say yes – in the name of process, but with delayed effect. And that's what I told Kovachevski," Mickoski added.
