Mickoski: VMRO-DPMNE has announced names of 33 mayoral candidates, rest to be known by mid-July

Skopje, 14 June 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told journalists Saturday that VMRO-DPMNE's executive committee named eight new mayoral candidates on Friday evening, adding that the party has so far published the names of 33 candidates, with internal polling currently underway for an additional 17 municipalities. He said he expects all the party’s candidates for the upcoming local elections to be determined by mid-July.

“Additionally, some of the candidates that we will support in the first round are candidates from our coalition partners. But we should see what public opinion polls show, so if we have certain potentials there which exceed VMRO-DPMNE's capacities, we will have no issue supporting them. I expect this entire process to be completed sometime near the end of the first half of July,” Mickoski said.

Late on Friday, MIA reported about the decision by VMRO-DPMNE's executive committee to announce the names of eight other candidates for the local elections. The committee decided to propose incumbent mayors of Makedonski Brod and Mogila, Zharko Risteski and Dragancho Sabotkovski, as its candidates for the two municipalities. The party also named Toni Tonevski as their candidate for Probishtip mayor, Marjan Peev for Bogdanci, Natalija Dimitrieva for Demir Kapija, Gjorgi Krstevski for Rosoman, Stevche Stevanovski for Novaci, and Zlatko Siljanovski for Debarca.

The committee also appointed the party’s secretary-general Gjorgjia Sajkoski head of the republican election headquarters, leading the campaign for the local elections.
