Mickoski says in Bucharest over nominating EPP head of list, widen cooperation with sister parties

Skopje, 6 March 2024 (MIA) - The primary goal of the Congress is to nominate a head of the EPP list for the upcoming European Parliament elections. Incumbent European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, is the only candidate, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said in Bucharest on Wednesday.

Mickoski alongside the party's presidential candidate Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, vice-presidents Aleksandar Nikoloski and Timcho Mucunski, as well as secretary for international cooperation Stefan Andonovski are paying a two-day visit to Bucharest, Romania, to attend the European People’s Party (EPP) Congress on Wednesday and Thursday, VMRO-DPMNE said in a press release.

"We expect that this will be a successful Congress that sends out messages of unity about the challenges of the 21st century, and condemns policies of disunity. Our position, as VMRO-DPMNE, is related to Macedonia's real policies and its EU integration," Mickoski said.

He also noted that several bilateral meetings are on the agenda, including with Croatian PM Andrej Plenković and Serbian PM Ana Brnabić, as well as meetings with the two EPP vice-presidents David McAllister and Johannes Hahn.

"Tomorrow, presidential candidate Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova will meet with the president of EPP Women," Mickoski added.

He noted that this was a great opportunity to widen the fields of cooperation with sister parties, especially those in government.

"Our goal is to work on increasing the economic potential of Macedonia as a country, and the main priority is increasing citizens' standards," Mickoski said. ssh/nn/
