Mickoski says country’s current legislation is sufficient to deal with individuals ‘blacklisted’ by US

Skopje, 24 December 2024 (MIA) - The Government won’t take steps contrary to the Constitution, it will always work towards positive legal norms and the Constitution, which are two key pillars for us, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Monday asked if the Government would adopt a law on restrictive measures for individuals who are “blacklisted” by the United States.

Mickoski said the country’s legislation is sufficient to deal with those the US has designated for corruption.

“What has been determined by the US decision, outlined in the list of sanctions that includes these individuals, an Appellate Court judge and former member of the Government, is practically a part of founded suspicions by the prosecutor’s office. I think we have enough quality procedures to resolve this within the system. We won’t take any steps that are contrary to the Constitution because that’s not why the citizens voted for us,” Mickoski stressed.

Regarding speculations that former First Deputy Prime Minister Artan Grubi could be granted political asylum in a neighboring country, Mickoski stressed that Grubi has been blacklisted because of criminal activities, and he doesn’t expect this to happen.

“I don’t expect that this will happen, but still, that’s the decision of those who would enter such a procedure,” Mickoski said.
