Mickoski: Opposition vehemently criticizing US after doing the same to another strategic partner, the UK

Kratovo, 16 January 2026 (MIA) – I regret the fact that the opposition after vehemently criticizing our strategic partner, the United Kingdom, it is doing the same thing now to the United States, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Friday when asked to comment on Washington’s decision to suspend the issuing of immigrant visas for 75 countries, including ours.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, he noted, has already commented on the move saying the US decision involves only immigrant visas.
“It involves immigrant visas, study and tourist visas are not affected. In the days to come, there will be pleasant news for the Macedonian citizens involving our strategic partner. I regret that the opposition after vehemently criticising our strategic partner, the United Kingdom, it is doing the same thing now to the US. Not so long ago, when the trade tariff of 35% was enforced, the same opposition mouthpieces, which I’d called residue of the society in politics, started insulting our strategic partner, the United States. They were nowhere to be found to apologize when the tariffs were reduced to 15%. In that sense, I’d be careful and patient waiting for very good news for the Macedonian citizens, soon,” stated PM Mickoski.
Speaking to reporters in the town of Kratovo, Mickoski said the government had approved a quota to issue work visas to foreign nationals in the country.
“Visas have been issued in all the sectors, already mapped by the economic chambers and employers,” he stated.
