Skopje, 17 July 2025 (MIA) - About Mden 14 billion, i.e. EUR 225 million will be allocated to fund 828 projects in the municipalities that have applied to the second call implemented by the Government through the Ministry of Local Self-Government.
Most of the projects (589) are in the area of transport, regarding which over Mden 8 billion will be allocated, followed by projects in environment (143), with over Mden 2.4 billion, education (48), with Mden 1.6 billion, and there are also projects in the areas of culture, sports and social policy.
"This is the largest investment offensive for municipalities ever, not only in terms of numbers, but also in terms of commitment and fairness. Construction is underway across the country, in all municipalities that applied, no party filters, no favouritism, where there are projects, there is support," Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told a joint press conference with Minister of Local Self-Government Zlatko Perinski after a signing ceremony for agreements on infrastructure projects on Thursday.
He pointed out that investments are made in every city and in every village, noting that the Government will not allow any region to be neglected.
"We are showing the difference between political spin and actual numbers and excavators. Macedonia is not just Skopje, we are investing equally in every village and every city. These are not party promises, these are 828 concrete agreements. We are not just talking about the future, but we are building it every day. We will not allow any region to be neglected. There will be no first-class and second-class citizens," said Mickoski.
This is the second public call for funding projects in local self-governments. The first call funded 288 projects.
"Development must not be a party category, but an obligation to citizens. The Ministry of Local Self-Government, as the coordinator of the process for both public calls, is in constant coordination with both municipalities and competent ministries. We are particularly proud that over 40 percent of the projects from the first public call have already been completed, and the rest are in an advanced phase of implementation, which is the best confirmation that we are not just talking about plans, but about real results on the ground," Minister of Local Self-Government Perinski said, adding that a large part of the completed projects have been implemented in small and rural municipalities.
Perinski said activities on the ground will be intensified in the coming period in order to monitor the implementation of the projects regarding which funds have been provided.
"Those who still doubt the effects of the two public calls will also be convinced of the real results when the implementation of all 1,116 projects approved for funding is completed. The work ahead of us in the coming period is serious and requires our full commitment," said Perinski.
