Mickoski - Kurti: Time to solve economic issues

Pristina, 18 November 2024 (MIA) - It is time to solve economic issues, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told a joint press conference with Kosovo counterpart Albin Kurti after a joint government session in Pristina on Monday.

The PMs and government ministers discussed a broad range of issues of mutual interest, including economic cooperation, increase of trade exchange, infrastructure projects and joint efforts to ensure regional stability and security, MIA reports from Pristina.

PM Mickoski said the meeting was exceptionally productive, including a sincere and open dialogue on key aspects of strengthening bilateral relations.

"We are convinced that the future of the Western Balkans lies in the European Union and NATO," said Mickoski added that citizens are interested in a better standard of life.

The PM noted that specific steps have been agreed towards improvement of the transport and energy ties that will positively impact economic development and progress of regional states, but also cooperation in the sectors of youth affairs and education.

Earlier today, Mickoski told the joint government session that he expects bilateral economic cooperation to reach EUR 500 million in 2025.

Kosovo PM Kurti thanked colleague Mickoski for the will to enhance cooperation and strengthen bilateral partnership, in the interest of citizens and the region.

The governments also signed bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding in several fields. The first is a MoU in the sector of energy, mining and mineral resources, which defines initiatives for cooperation in the fields of energy, gas, coal, electricity and relevant infrastructure projects for gas interconnection, as well as evaluation of the option for a new direct gas link between Kosovo and North Macedonia.

The second document is a protocol over implementation of the agreement on joint border crossings Blace - Elez Han and Jazhince - Glloboçicë. The protocol regulates the aspect of border and customs controls, infrastructure at joint border points, networking of border management systems and maintenance of facilities.

The Ministry of Education and Science also signed a MoU with the Kosovo Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovations.
