Mickoski: It’s unacceptable for judges and prosecutors to demand Mden 350,000 salaries while enjoying only 2% confidence

Skopje, 19 September 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, at Friday’s meeting with journalists, said that not all demands from the European Commission regarding legislation will be met. He pointed out that the request to liberalize electricity prices for households will especially not be accepted, as it would cause prices to increase two to three times, particularly in the first three years after liberalization.
“We will not accept the request to increase funding for judges and prosecutors, who, through the legislative amendments, are asking for 1.3% of GDP annually for the judiciary, twice the current allocation. This would amount to 100 million dollars each year, and in a few years 250 million. I personally believe that even the salaries they currently receive are not deserved, as they have only a 2 percent rating. If their request were met, judges and prosecutors would earn between Mden 300,000 and 350,000 per month. Therefore, we have asked the Ministry of Finance to prepare a comparative analysis of judiciary funding in Germany, Croatia, Hungary, etc., and present it to the EC,” Mickoski stated.
He pointed out that preliminary findings indicate Germany spends significantly less of its budget on the judiciary compared to what is currently allocated and requested from us.
