Skopje, 10 July 2024 (MIA) – Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski in Washington alongside the prime ministers of Albania and Montenegro, Edi Rama and Milojko Spajić respectively, met with US Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Thom Tillis and the members of the Senate NATO Observer Group.

Mickoski said that the Balkan region experienced a difficult period of challenges and changes that made it evident that cooperation, accelerated development and investing in friendships of the citizens will result in better life, the government said in a press release.

He, it added, noted that blockades and obstacles should serve only as a remnant of a time in the past from which the region should learn how unreasonable disputes could result only in impasse and in creating stereotypes and division between the citizens.

“Any initiative promoting increased cooperation of the region and better living conditions is welcome,” said Mickoski stressing that a new start is needed as well as a generation of politicians who are prepared to be part of a reasonable fact-based dialogue. 

According to him, the future of the region lies in economic cooperation and investments and in thorough fight against corruption and organized crime, which is the biggest threat to progress. 

“The Macedonian Government is committed to developing the economy and establishing rule of law,” said Mickoski.

PM Mickoski as part of his Washington visit took part in the opening of the NATO Summit, which runs through July 11.
