Skopje, 2 August 2025 (MIA) - Ilinden is the foundation upon which modern Macedonian statehood is built, it is the truth which Macedonia is living, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Saturday in a greeting extended over August 2, Republic Day – Ilinden.

“It isn’t only history – it is a living identity, a reminder of the aspiration for freedom, justice and a country of our own. On this day, we remember the courage and sacrifice of those who began our fight for independence and dignity,” Prime Minister Mickoski said.

The Prime Minister said this aspiration has been realized but not completed.

“That’s why Ilinden isn’t only an occasion for celebration, but also for responsibility. The responsibility we have as a people and citizens, but especially as institutions, to continue the path launched in Krushevo and affirmed at ASNOM, through work, honesty and care for the future,” the Prime Minister added.

He said the Government is aware that the trust of the citizens needs to be justified by results. “Which is why,” he said, “the Government is committed to making Macedonia a country of opportunities – just, secure, and prosperous, with strong institutions that will be on the side of the citizens“.

“This generation of politicians has a duty to show that things can be better. And it will do so. Ilinden unites us around the idea of a state that goes beyond divisions. Let us draw strength from history and transform it into a future. Let us continue the fight, but through knowledge, vision and responsibility. Long live Ilinden. Long live Macedonia,” the Prime Minister said in a greeting published on his official Facebook profile.
