Mickoski: I expect a chief prosecutor who defends justice, not SDSM-DUI government

Negotino, 26 February 2025 (MIA) – Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Wednesday that he expects the Chief Prosecutor to be elected who will serve as a defender of justice, and not “a protector of the SDSM-DUI government.” During his visit to Negotino, PM Mickoski was asked why he is not satisfied with Chief Prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski and how he responds to SDSM's accusations that the judiciary is being politicized.

"The fact that SDSM is defending Kocevski and DUI is the main reason, the main condition, for us to act in opposite direction. This means that we have a completely obstructed and politicized system, whose goal is to serve as the last stronghold, the last shield of a government that became history on the Macedonian political scene more than eight months ago, that is the government of SDSM and DUI. However, together with Levica, they function exceptionally well and efficiently in opposition, and I believe they will continue to do so as a coalition for a long time," Mickoski said.

He expects the entire process to be completed "swiftly and efficiently."

"But the very fact that they say Kocevski should not be replaced means we must act in the opposite direction. We must do everything in power to replace him because we know what citizens think about the judiciary under the control of the SDSM-DUI coalition in the past. Public trust stands at only two or three percent. Therefore, I expect this process to be completed swiftly and efficiently, resulting in the appointment of a prosecutor who will be a defender of justice, not a protector of the SDSM-DUI government," Mickoski said.
