Mickoski: Economy registering real growth of 3.4% in Q2, among top five per GDP growth in Europe

Skopje, 7 September 2025 (MIA) - In the second quarter of 2025 our economy recorded real growth of 3.4 percent in the second quarter of 2025 and is among the top five countries in Europe in terms of GDP growth, the Government’s measures and actions are delivering results, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said on Sunday.

"The first is the fact that in the second quarter, our economy recorded a real growth of 3.4 percent, and for the second consecutive quarter, we are among the top five countries in Europe with the highest GDP growth rate. If in the previous, first quarter we were in fourth place, now we share third place with Croatia. Ahead of us are Ireland and Cyprus with 3.6 percent," said Mickoski at an event inaugurating a section of the Kichevo – Ohrid motorway.

The PM stressed that the Government’s measures and work are bearing results and have generated new 10,000 jobs in the past period.

"The Government's measures and the active work we've carried out during this period have generated 10,000 new jobs. If we compare the number of employed people in the second quarter of 2024, just over 691,000, with the number in the second quarter of 2025, just over 701,000, it means we've created 10,000 new jobs in one year. We've also reduced the number of unemployed by more than 7,000 when comparing these two quarters. These figures may seem like just numbers on paper, but they are part of real life, they are families, they are people, they are truths. This Government aims to make our citizens' lives better and more successful," Mickoski said.

The third indicator, Mickoski stressed, is the fact that over the past seven months of this year, from January to July, exports have grown faster than imports, noting that “this is a rare example”.

"If we look back over the past 15 years, it's rare to see the Macedonian economy so consistently export-oriented rather than import-oriented over such a long period. This means the trade deficit is decreasing. It also means more foreign currency and more money are staying within Macedonian companies and in the hands of Macedonian citizens, which is both our goal and our task as a Government," Mickoski said.

The Prime Minister said in last year’s election campaign his party promised committed and honest work, and not “miracles and impossible things”.

"I know that instant results are impossible. We said that during the campaign as well. We are not miracle workers. Miracles are impossible. But we promised committed and honest work, and that is exactly what we’ve been doing over the past 15 months – deeply committed and honest work. I give you my word that we will continue this way – fighting every day for every single project, for every new investment, for every human destiny, to help and ensure a more dignified life. This is our vision – Macedonia of action, not excuses. This is proof that we can leave behind the period of stagnation and open the path toward development. We will continue like this – building, completing what has been started, and launching new opportunities for every region and every citizen," Prime Minister Mickoski stressed.
