Mickoski: DUI's accusation of ethnic polarisation is wrong, there was nothing else but crime during its term

Skopje, 24 August 2025 (MIA) – Speaking at Sunday’s fair of mayors “Four Years Working for You”, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski rejected DUI’s accusations involving ethnic inequality saying that DUI “equals crime and corruption.”
Calling the opposition party’s allegations “unconstructive”, Mickoski presented proof showing the VMRO-DPMNE-led government has allocated financial assistance to municipalities led by DUI mayors.
“Their role in the government means a lot of crime and a lot of corruption, not working for being incapable. Now, they are equalising all of these adjectives describing their time in the government with ethnic polarisation – I think this allegation is wrong,” said Mickoski.
In Kichevo, he said, where mayor is DUI’s Fatmir Dehari, in the first call almost 56 million denars in projects financed by this government; in the second call almost 330 million denars, or a total of 385 million denars for 16 projects, that is more than 6 million euros.
“Struga, for example, the mayor is Mr. Ramiz Merko from DUI, who is blacklisted by US, in the first call there is one project worth around 135 million denars, the second call has 5 projects worth 307 million denars or a total of 443 million denars. Saraj, in the second call we have 5 projects worth nearly 320 million denars, which this government has provided for a municipality in which the mayor is from the ranks of DUI,” explained Mickoski.
During SDS and DUI’s term, the leader of the ruling party said, projects from the municipalities run by VMRO-DPMNE mayors weren’t funded at all.
“If we analyse the first three years of the mayors from VMRO-DPMNE, will any of them remember a project financed by the SDS and DUI government, the answer is no. More than 40 municipalities did not receive literally a single project financed by that government. I truly reject them as being unconstructive, they are messages that belong to the last century, I truly regret that the unreformed, criminal and corrupt DUI is still living in those years, and still thinks that with such messages it will gain sympathy in the public, thinking that if it becomes radicalized, I think they are wrong and they will realize it in the local elections that will take place in less than two months,” said Mickoski.
