Mickoski: DUI will focus on internal party elections, not other polls, following local election results

Skopje, 14 October 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Tuesday that DUI will be unpleasantly surprised by the results of the upcoming local elections and that afterward they will be dealing with internal party elections rather than other types of elections.

While visiting the newly renovated department at the University Clinic of Traumatology, Orthopedic, Anesthesia, Intensive Care and Emergency Center on Tuesday, Mickoski answered a question from reporters about early parliamentary elections, emphasizing that his stance is clear and precise.

“I think I have been very clear and precise on this matter. It is unfortunate that some opposition structures, particularly the Democratic Union for Integration, in the absence of real projects and citizen-focused plans, resort to mobilizing voters by offering employment, tenders, and business opportunities. I don’t believe this will actually happen, and I think in these elections they will be unpleasantly surprised by the outcome. Afterward, they will likely be more concerned with internal party elections than with other elections,” Mickoski stated.

Mickoski has earlier rejected claims that the results of the local elections would lead to early parliamentary elections in the spring. He noted on Monday that over 600,000 voters supported the government in last year’s elections, granting it full legitimacy.

“I understand that some political parties, besides creating divisions and engaging in nationalist rhetoric, have no program to mobilize their supporters. Their only option is to repeatedly demand early elections. VMRO-DPMNE achieved a historic victory in the 2021 local elections, then spent three years in opposition, and later won the parliamentary elections with another historic result. Today, we are in government. The revised GDP for 2024 stands at three percent, one of the highest in Europe… and it may go even higher. This exceeds the expectations of the IMF and the World Bank. It would be a shame to halt these positive developments with early parliamentary elections. We, as a political party, prioritize the national interest over party sentiments,” Mickoski stated Monday after meeting with the Economic Chamber of North-West Macedonia.
