Mickoski – Grenell: Assessing opportunities for potential U.S. participation in ‘Chebren’ energy project

Skopje, 14 August 2024 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timcho Mucunski, met Wednesday with Richard Grenell, former acting Director of the United States National Intelligence, the Government said in a press release.
According to the press release, at the meeting Mickoski and Grenell discussed current developments in the Western Balkan region, highlighting the importance of maintaining peace, security, stability and enhancement of relations and cooperation between the countries in this part of Europe.
A special emphasis, said the Government, was placed on the relations between the United States and the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as the opportunities for their further enhancement.
During the meeting, according to the Government, opportunities for future joint investments in projects significant for the region were analyzed.
“In this context, the opportunity for potential American participation in the ‘Chebren’ energy project was assessed as well, as a project of strategic importance for the country’s energy independence,” the press release said.
Prime Minister Mickoski voiced gratitude to Grenell “for his commitment to the development of the overall relations between the two countries”. He also noted that the Government remains firmly committed to the enhancement of the strategic cooperation, with special attention to the areas of rule of law, economy and energy.
