Skopje, 31 October 2022 (MIA) – The Media Information Agency (MIA) became the 78th member of the Media Literacy Network last week. MIA representatives, general service editor Ana Cvetkovska and editor Sashko Panajotov attended the Network’s annual meeting on Monday, the penultimate day of the 2022 Media Literacy Days, which are being held under the motto “Think Critically – Gather the Whole Story.” The results of the voting for two members of the Network’s Coordination Group were presented at the meeting, and the coordinator of the Network, Emilija Petreska Kamenjarova presented the activities carried out in 2022, she spoke about the EMIL membership and about presenting the Network in front of the European regulators. She stated that North Macedonia is one of the first countries in Europe with this kind of network for media literacy, which includes various stakeholders of society who are able to contribute in this area. She underscored that this has been recognized by Europe and that a large number of European countries are using our experiences with the network. Daniela Stankovska Plachkovska from the Macedonian Film Agency, spoke about the activities of the Network’s Work Group on Film Literacy. At the meeting, MIA’s general service editor, Cvetkovska, stated that the Agency has always been at the center of the fight against fake news, especially since agency journalism requires accurate and verified information, supported by reliable sources, but also that, in the past few years, the Agency has been following and covering the Network’s activities within the Media Literacy Days. She added that before all important political events and elections in the past few years, MIA has been publishing various media products aimed at raising awareness among the citizens on how to recognize fake news and disinformation, which especially intensify during those periods. Considering the influence that MIA has in the media space, Cvetkovska added that the Agency contributes so that the information can cover a large part of the audience, and this year decided to officially join the Network in order to increase its contribution. Several aspects of diversity in media were examined through the 2022 Media Literacy Days. By developing the multimedia topic “Media Literacy – Literacy of the 21st century” MIA, as a part of the Media Literacy Network, is joining the UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Week, held under the motto “Nurturing Trust: A Media and Information Literacy Imperative”. The Media Literacy Network was created in order to facilitate the communication and consultation between different entities in the country working on raising the level of media literacy of all citizens. It should contribute to more frequent cooperation between the relevant factors and for better and more sustainable results from the projects. The Network was created in 2017 by 35 founding members, currently it has 78 members and is continuously open to new members. ad/ba/
