Skopje, 26 July 2023 (MIA) – Employees of the Media Information Agency (MIA) are to stage a warning protest Thursday, demanding higher wages.
The warning protest will be held during the break, in front of the MIA offices at 11am.
The protest is being organized with the support of the Independent Union of Journalists and Media Workers (SSNM) and the Union of Media Information Agencies (SMIA).
The journalists and media workers at MIA have been asking for a wage increase for quite some time, in line with the Collective Agreement and in order to adjust to the costs of living, but the Government did not consider it appropriate to approve a wage increase for the country’s public information service.
The warning protests will continue in the coming days as well, and if they do not result in understanding and acceptance of the employees’ demands, more radical steps will be taken.
SSNM urges all MIA employees to join the protest.
The Independent Union of Journalists and Media Workers provides its unreserved support to its members and all journalists and media workers at MIA, and reminds that the fundamental prerequisite for free and professional journalism is a stable socio-economic condition of journalists and media workers.
