MFA refutes online media reports, says nine ambassadors informed about conclusion of their terms

Skopje, 27 February 2025 (MIA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade in a press release Thursday is refuting online media news that eight ambassadors have been recalled, calling the reports “inaccurate that don’t correspond with the current situation.”

“As regards the procedure for recalling a certain number of ambassadors, we’re informing that the Ministry is in regular and continuing contact with the President’s office. Via the official internal communication system, nine ambassadors so far have been informed about their terms coming to an end. In the coming period, the President is expected to sign the decrees to recall them,” the Foreign Ministry (MFA) says.

Institutional coordination and communication, it adds, including that of diplomatic offices, takes place solely via a protected internal system, not via email.

Recently, doctored photos of alleged email communication between members of MFA staff are frequently shared on social media and by some media outlets, says the press release, adding the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade has filed a report requesting an intervention by the Interior Ministry’s cybercrime sector.

“The Ministry is calling on media outlets to fact check before publishing any information related to the authorities and work of the Ministry,” it says in the press release.

Earlier, media outlets reported that the ambassadors serving in Brussels, London, Podgorica, OSCE, Prague, Sarajevo, Sofia and Stockholm have been recalled citing unfulfillment of Article 39 of the law on foreign affairs, for not presenting their diplomatic thesis to members of the foreign policy committee at confirmation hearings.
