MFA has no information on Macedonian nationals fighting in Ukraine
Skopje, 10 August 2022 (MIA) - North Macedonia's Foreign Ministry (MFA) said Wednesday it has no information as to whether Macedonian nationals have gone to Ukraine to fight after the Russian Defense Ministry revealed that among the foreign mercenaries fighting alongside the Ukrainians were more than 70 Macedonian nationals.
"The Foreign Ministry has no relevant information in relation to possible participation by our nationals in the war in Ukraine or any information about killed nationals in the war. The Ministry has been closely following the situation through the embassy in Ukraine. We will inform the public as soon as we have new information," MFA told MIA.
Moscow has released a table of "foreign mercenaries" fighting on Ukraine's side. North Macedonia is listed as one of the countries from where fighters have joined the Ukrainians. According to Russia's Defense Ministry, 79 Macedonian nationals joined Ukraine's fronts since the start of the war. 26 have been killed, 21 have returned and 32 people are still fighting there.
According to Moscow, "mercenaries" to fight against Russia in Ukraine have also arrived from Albania, Croatia, Poland, Italy, Romania, Kosovo, Finland, Latvia, etc.
