Skopje, 24 October 2023 (MIA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release that as of Tuesday, five Macedonian nationals in Gaza have expressed an interest to return to the country.
“Apart from the married couple, for which we already had information, our Embassy in Cairo was contacted by a family – a father and two children, all Macedonian nationals. Travel documents have been issued for the children for their return to North Macedonia, while the relevant institutions in Cairo and Tel Aviv have said that all five nationals have been placed on an evacuation list, and are currently awaiting a decision for the opening of the Rafah border crossing,” said the MFA.
Additionally, added the Ministry, the two embassies of North Macedonia, in Cairo and Tel Aviv, are in constant communication with the Macedonian nationals who are currently safe.
The opening of the border crossing depends on the situation on the ground, and the crossing is currently closed.
“In the meantime,” said the Foreign Ministry, “we are working to identify and collect information on other possible Macedonian nationals who could be stuck in Gaza.”
Macedonian nationals can contact the Foreign Ministry via its 24/7 line at +389 75 273 732 and +389 75 268 736, as well as the 24/7 lines of the Embassy in Tel Aviv +972-54-926-7378 and of the Embassy in Cairo +201033615542.
