MFA extends verbal note to Sofia over Dzhambazki statements
Skopje, 18 October 2022 (MIA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday it has extended a verbal note through the Embassy of North Macedonia to Sofia, expressing its utter displeasure over the recent public statements by Member of European Parliament (MEP) and co-president of the VMRO-BND party Angel Dzhambazki. Dzhambazki has, on several occasions, expressed irredentist and territorial aspirations to the Republic of North Macedonia and insulted the reputation of high-level officials of the country. By doing this, Mr. Dzhambazki acts in contrary to the commitments and aspirations declared in the bilateral friendship treaty, the MFA said in a press release. It adds that in line with the Friendship Treaty, the Bulgarian government and ministry of foreign affairs are expected to condemn and distance themselves from the MEP’s statements. In addition, the MFA would appreciate any possible actions undertaken by competent institutions in Bulgaria to prevent similar behavior in the future, reads the press release.
