Skopje, 2 March 2023 (MIA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday that it had contacted the Serbian MFA on Wednesday to express its condemnation of the “provocative insults and slogans” expressed during the handball match between Partizan and Vardar in Belgrade by the supporters of the Belgrade-based club.

“Apart from going against the principles of fair and sportsmanlike behavior, these unpleasant activities also deeply hurt the dignity of North Macedonia and its citizens. The Ministry noted that such actions are not in the spirit of the great bilateral relations between the two countries,” said the Ministry in a press release.

The Ministry added that the Serbian Ambassador in North Macedonia, expressed regret and distanced herself from these “isolated individual cases, which in no way reflect Belgrade's official position towards our country, nor are they in the spirit of the joint commitment to strengthen the overall bilateral relations between the two countries.” ad/nn/
