Mexhiti: Health Ministry initiates budget increase from EUR 2.6 million to 5 million for procuring equipment

Skopje, 18 September 2023 (MIA) - The Ministry of Health initiated a budget increase from EUR 2,6 million to EUR 5 million for equipment procurement. That means double the funds, and I am proud. It is our commitment to speed up the reconstruction process and the procurement of equipment, because the key reason for dissatisfaction with public health is the poor infrastructure and conditions, Minister of Health Fatmir Mexhiti told Monday's press briefing.

He spoke about the current challenges in the healthcare system and presented the focus of the work of the Ministry.

Mexhiti announced that a new dynamic is planned in the construction and renovation of healthcare facilities, noting that legal deadlines on resuming projects that have been halted for decades have now started running again, as in the case with the Shtip and Kichevo hospitals. He stressed that a strategy for reorganization of health institutions, job systematization and a new strategy encouraging young doctors to stay in the country, have moved onto a final stage. In addition, the Minister announced a new procedure for reporting potential abuse in healthcare.

"Employees at the Ministry of Health will have a new procedure, we ourselves will gather accurate information, and I personally guarantee here before the media, as a Minister, I will go to the Public Prosecutor's Office to personally deliver the entire documentation on potential abuse," Mexhiti pointed out.

He said it is very important for patients to trust doctors and that all health professionals should not be put in the same basket, emphasizing that after the Oncology case, the Ministry will do all it takes to restore patients' trust in the quality of healthcare. ssh/nn/
