Skopje, 25 June 2025 (MIA) -- When the Venice Commission is done reviewing the equitable representation bill, it will be put to a debate in Parliament where any lawmaker will be able to give their opinion and contribute to making it better, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti told a press conference Wednesday.
In response to a reporter's question, Mexhiti said the law would solve an open question that should have been closed in 2003.
"They tried to keep the 'Balancer' issue afloat for a long time, although the 'Balancer' was abolished by the previous government, and Mr. Sela was there, too," Mexhiti said, commenting on MP Zijadin Sela's press conference on the equitable representation bill earlier Wednesday.
"The ministers in the Kovachevski government were in full agreement with the Macedonian justices in the Constitutional Court, who abolished the 'Balancer'," he said.
Mexhiti added the Albanian language would not be threatened by the new law.
"They said that, allegedly, it threatened the Albanian language. But the Albanian language remains as it is. Worth It can improve it so Albanian receives the status it deserves in the future," the deputy PM said. mr/
