Media Literacy Days 2022 begin
Skopje, 25 October 2022 (MIA) – The Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services launched Media Literacy Days 2022 as part of which the public will be able to attend workshops, debates, video and panel discussions, presentations, exhibitions and film screenings from October 25 to November 1. At the press conference marking the beginning of Media Literacy Days 2022, the head of the Agency, Zoran Trajchevski, stated that for the fourth year running, the Agency is giving its unreserved support to the Media Literacy Network in the organization of the event. The event will cover various topics which will include activities for the development of critical thinking without stereotypes. Some of the topics which will be covered at the event include: through media literacy we educate young generations without prejudices and stereotypes, diversity and disinformation in the Western Balkans, techniques of journalistic writing and recognizing disinformation, how media report on young people on the margins, moral panic and the presentation of LGBTI in the media, the media needs of people with disabilities. Additionally, this year, the event will include a film program for the first time, which will be divided into two parts. “One part of the program is intended for people with disabilities, who will be able to watch movies from the regular programs of the Milenium movie theater, Cineplexx and the Cinematheque of North Macedonia from Oct 23 to Nov 1 for free, as well as the screenings at the Cinematheque on Oct 25, 26, 28 and 29. The free tickets have to be reserved one day in advance,” said Trajchevski. The second part of the program includes free screenings of thematic films intended for primary school children (VI to IX grade). This program will consist of “My Brother Chases Dinosaurs”- a movie about the life of and with a boy with Down syndrome, “Hacker” - a movie about video games, and “Checkered Ninja” - a movie which examines the issue of bullying. The motto of Media Literacy Days 2022 is “Think Critically – Gather the Whole Story”. With these events, North Macedonia is joining the UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Week, held under the motto “Nurturing Trust: A Media and Information Literacy Imperative”. ad/nn/
