May 8 elections to be followed by 1,078 local and 770 foreign observers

Skopje, 7 May 2024 (MIA) — A total of 1,999 observers, foreign reporters and translators have been accredited for the presidential runoff and the parliamentary elections on May 8. 


According to figures released by the State Election Commission, the elections will be monitored by 1,078 local observers. Most of them come from Skopje's Wake Up NGO (752), followed by the Roma for Democracy foundation (151), Civil (82) and other NGOs.


Also accredited are 770 foreign observers, 85 translators and 66 foreign reporters. Most of them are from the OSCE/ODIHR special election assessment mission (410 observers, 14 experts, and 31 translators), the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (138 observers), and the US Embassy (68 observers and 33 translators).


The presidential election will be covered by 66 foreign journalists and media workers, including those from Reuters, Associated Press, Al Jazeera, and Agence France-Presse as well as media from neighboring countries.


The first round of the presidential elections on April 24 was monitored by 1601 observers, 84 translators and 58 foreign journalists. mr/
