Skopje, 28 March 2023 (MIA) – Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj said that there was no agreement nor any other constitutional amendments were discussed, besides including Bulgarians, Montenegrins, Croats and other ethnic communities who request it.

“The focus must be on the constitutional amendments resulting from the EU negotiating framework. Some issues can be solved with future processes of constitutional changes,” Deputy PM Marichikj told DW.

According to Marichikj, the opening of new issues and other topics beyond the original goal of changing the Constitution were expected.

“It is not the first time that we hear proposals, requests or a package of changes that would be proposed in the event of amending the Constitution. A public debate can be opened for any topic that is important to the citizens, but the focus must be on the commitment we took in the French proposal, which is transposed into our negotiation framework, and we should all be focused on that,” Marichikj noted.

If we want to succeed with the constitutional amendments, he underlined, the process must be focused on those topics important for swift EU integration.

“All other issues will require a more detailed discussion and it may take longer as a process, and some issues may be resolved by future processes of constitutional change. The constitutional amendments resulting from the EU negotiating framework are in the interest of both the citizens and the state. And when it comes to the citizens and the state, we should have the same goal and create conditions for the EU negotiations to be efficient and to become an EU member state as soon as possible,” Marichikj said.
