Marichikj: ‘Justice, Freedom and Security’ is chapter bringing essential change to Macedonian society
Skopje, 21 November 2022 (MIA) – Chapter 24-Justice, Freedom and Security is a chapter that brings essential change to Macedonian society and will be the largest to align in the EU accession negotiations, said Deputy PM for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj at the opening of the three-day bilateral screening on the chapter in Brussels on Monday.
“We are committed to implementing all necessary reforms in order to become a credible member of the European family. This difficult statehood process with the EU represents the best mechanism to implement reforms that contribute to the strengthening of democracy and creating a mature society through strong and efficient institutions,” said Deputy PM Marichikj, who is also the country’s EU Chief Negotiator.
“We will use the days ahead to present the level of alignment and further plans for harmonization in the fields where we have been working for years to transpose the relevant acquis, as well as strengthen our administrative and operational capacity. Chapter 24 is the pillar of visa liberalization regime that we have been under since 2009, giving our citizens first-hand benefits of EU membership,” said Marichikj.
The country’s negotiating team is comprised of representatives of the Chapter 24 working group coming from the Office of the Deputy PM for good governance policies, Ministries of Interior, Justice, Defense, Foreign Affairs and Health, Public Prosecutor’s Office, National Bank, Financial Intelligence Unit and Secretariat for European Affairs.
