Marichikj – Pammer: Austria strongly supports continuing EU negotiations 

Skopje, 23 August 2023 (MIA) — Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj met Wednesday with the newly appointed Austrian Ambassador Martin Pammer to discuss the course of the screening process, the constitutional changes, and the importance of the country's progress toward the European Union.

 

According to the Secretariat of European Affairs in a press release, Deputy PM Marichikj said EU membership was of great national interest and the government was committed to keeping the country on the European path.

 

"We are ready for difficult and thorough reforms to reach European standards faster," he said, adding that European partners were providing support along the way.

 

Ambassador Pammer confirmed that the Republic of Austria supports EU enlargement and he said his country would continue to be North Macedonia's ally on the way to the EU.

 

He expressed confidence that the constitutional amendments would succeed. He also pointed out that the government's dedication to fulfilling the requirements for getting closer to the EU was a strong confirmation that North Macedonia should join the bloc.

 

Marichikj wished Pammer a successful term in office. He expressed confidence that North Macedonia and Austria would strengthen their good relations and further boost cooperation, especially during the accession process and the reform implementation, the release says. mr/
