March for Srebrenica: Horrific crime to never happen again

Skopje, 11 July 2023 (MIA) — Srebrenica should not happen to any nation or any faith, said participants in the traditional commemorative March for Srebrenica held in Skopje on Thursday to honor the memory of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide.

"Today we remember the horrific crime of genocide committed in our mother country Bosnia and Herzegovina, where more than 8,000 Bosniaks were killed. Many more Bosniaks were killed in those days, but the massacre in Srebrenica that the international court determined was genocide was the most horrific," Bosniak National Council president and organizer of the march Dzhevad Hot said.

In addition to the march, artworks on the theme of Srebrenica were exhibited at Macedonia Square. The paintings were created by local and regional artists in the previous five days.

"The painters wanted to show the horrific crime that happened. We gathered artists from all over former Yugoslavia to send a message to the world that what happened in Srebrenica should not repeat anywhere ever. We are now witnessing something similar in Ukraine, which should not be happening," Hot said.

The march started in Chair Municipality. The participants marched down John Kennedy Boulevard, through the Old Skopje Bazaar, and ultimately reached Macedonia Square, where a gathering was held in honor of the Srebrenica victims. mr/
