Macedonian church synod calls for protection of Macedonian identity, Macedonian language, culture, history
Skopje, 5 July 2022 (MIA)- The Holy Synod of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric (MOC-OA) expects the Government and all relevant social and political factors to unite and build a strategy that fully protects the Macedonian identity, Macedonian language, culture and history in the family of European nations. In a press release after Tuesday’s extraordinary session discussing the current situation in the Macedonian society, the Synod said if the Macedonian distinctiveness is threatened in any form, the MOC-OA will not accept that. “The Holy Synod paid attention with concern to the situation caused by the latest modified French proposal, as well as the consequences that would result from it, and once again urges for absolute protection of Macedonian national interests. As a Synod, we expect the Government and all other relevant social and political factors involved in this process to unite and build a strategy that will fully protect the Macedonian identity, Macedonian language, culture and history in the family of European nations. The Synod informs the public that if the Macedonian distinctiveness is threatened in any form, the MOC-OA will not accept it,” reads the press release. In addition, the Holy Synod of the MOC-OA calls on the Macedonian people and all citizens in the Macedonian society to fully unite, while using all democratic means to protect their existence. “Those who decided to exercise their right through protest should do so with dignity, without violence and without destruction of public goods,” the press release adds.
