Macedonian children's project begins in Zagreb

Zagreb, 16 April 2026 (MIA) — A children's art and language project titled "The Magic Circle of Childhood" begins Thursday at the Macedonian Cultural and Information Center in Zagreb and will run through April 19.

The multimedia project focuses on helping Macedonian children living abroad to stay connected to their native language.

"The Macedonian language is our largest cultural homeland, which has no borders," organizers said, adding that the Macedonian language should be kept alive for children abroad as a highly important part of their culture.

Participating in the project are some 40 students from August Harambašić Elementary and Nikola Tesla Elementary schools in Zagreb studying the language with Macedonian language teacher Despina Belchovska Velinska.

The project includes three creative workshops: acting with actor and director Snezhana Koneska Rusi, drawing with designer Elena Maksimovska and writing with children's book author Tatjana Gogoska.

Gogoska’s new book, also titled "The Magic Circle of Childhood," will be officially launched on April 19 during the project’s closing event, which will be moderated by Konevska Rusi.

Macedonian Cultural and Information Center director Mimi Gjorgoska Ilievska will speak at the book launch, along with the author.

Participating children will help present the book through a series of performances developed during the workshops.

The Macedonian children's art and language project in Zagreb was organized by KAT Production with support from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. mr/
