Luxembourg, 18 March 2025 (MIA) - Luxembourg has supported the international medical evacuation of nightclub fire victims from North Macedonia, coordinating flights to Hungary and Croatia through its emergency relief system, RTL reported.
At least 59 people were killed and over 150 injured in a nightclub fire in North Macedonia’s town of Kochani, prompting an international emergency response. Of the 140 hospitalised victims, 51 were transferred to hospitals abroad, including in Greece, Turkey, Serbia, and Bulgaria, the outlet added.
Four patients were evacuated with support from Luxembourg's Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Two were flown to Hungary and two to Croatia for specialised medical treatment.
The medical evacuations were carried out by Luxembourg Air Rescue, using flight hours allocated under the 'emergency.lu' system. The operation was co-financed by Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Union through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, said RTL.
