Los Angeles City Hall to be lit in red and yellow to honor and remember victims of tragedy in Kochani

Skopje, 16 June 2025 (MIA) - The Los Angeles City Hall will be illuminated in red and yellow, the colors of the Macedonian national flag, starting tonight at 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Tuesday morning (local time), in honor and remembrance of the victims of the tragedy in Kochani.

St. Mary Macedonian Orthodox Church has issued an open invitation on its post via Facebook, calling on the public to attend the event honoring the victims of the recent tragedy in Kochani.

“We stand in deep solidarity with the people of Kochani, with the global Macedonian community, and with everyone impacted as we continue to mourn this heartbreaking loss. This poignant tribute on the three-month anniversary will be a reminder that, even across oceans, our unity and compassion remain unshaken. Our hearts are with every family affected, and we honor those we’ve lost with light, love, and remembrance. We sincerely thank Councilmember Soto-Martinez from District 13, his wonderful team and the City of Los Angeles for standing in solidarity with the Macedonian people,” reads the Facebook post.

In regard to the “Macedonian Day of Remembrance” event honouring and remembering the victims of the tragedy in Kochani, Macedonia, City Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez expressed his deep sorrow for the loss of 62 lives and expressed solidarity with the Macedonian people as they seek justice, healing, and a brighter future.

“The small but vibrant Macedonian community in Atwater Village and across Los Angeles has deep roots dating back to the 1960s. As a city, we mourn the 62 lives lost in the Pulse nightclub fire and stand in solidarity with the Macedonian people as they seek justice, healing and a brighter future,” City Councilmember Soto-Martinez from District 13, writes on Facebook.

June 16 marks three months since the Kochani tragedy. The fire at the “Pulse” nightclub, which broke out in the early hours of March 16, claimed 62 lives and injured more than 200 people. Following the investigation, 34 persons and three legal entities have been indicted for serious crimes against public safety.
