Lloga-Jan Kop: The Netherlands supports judicial reforms

Skopje, 13 March 2023 (MIA) – The finalization of the drafting of the new Judicial Sector Reform Strategy 2023-2027, the preparation of the new criminal code, screening, as well as strengthening the capacities for conducting negotiations in Chapter 23 - Justice and Fundamental Rights, were discussed during Monday’s meeting between Justice Minister Krenar Lloga and the Dutch ambassador in the country Dirk Jan Kop.

Lloga thanked Ambassador Jan Kop for the intensive cooperation and commitment to the European reform agenda, as well as the help provided through the projects financed by the Netherlands, which relate to the quality and accountability of the Macedonian justice system, strengthening accountability, efficiency and transparency of the Judicial Council, support of the Academy of Judges and Public Prosecutors, rule of law, media freedom, preventive measures against corruption, Ministry of Justice said in a press release.

According to the press release, the Dutch ambassador has expressed his interest in the initiative for the preparation of a new Electoral Code.

Minister Loga briefed that the working group cannot start work due to the fact that VMRO-DPMNE does not propose its member despite several requests for the nomination of their representative.

In regard to the start of the vetting process, Justice Minister Lloga underscored that this process cannot be realized without the support of the USA and the EU.

“Ambassador Jan Kop expressed best wishes for successful tenure as minister to Loga said that the Netherlands will continue to implement projects in the field of justice by providing support to the prison system, the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Judicial Council, as well as greater use of mediation in our country,” reads the press release.
