Lloga: Vetting is impossible without EU and US support

Skopje, 8 March 2023 (MIA) - Justice Minister Krenar Lloga has launched consultations with domestic and international factors over the possible vetting modalities, saying the process is not possible without the support of the EU and the U.S.

Minister Lloga told Alsat-M that the country does not need another disappointment as with the now-defunct Special Prosecutor's Office, an aspect he pointed to EU Ambassador David Geer.

"In other words, the least Macedonia needs is a bigger disappointment than this. We are in a stage of communication and exchange of opinions and we will then select the modality of the process. If there is no direct involvement through advisors from the EU but also from the U.S. regarding the instrument itself, then a vetting is not attainable. We either launch a real process that will justify my and the ministry's credibility, or this process is not worth starting," says Lloga.

According to him, the EU Ambassador expressed readiness for direct involvement in the process, while adding that the U.S. Embassy has also shown interest in the matter, the Ministry of Justice said in a press release.
