Skopje, 22 November 2023 (MIA) - Representatives of the government coalition maintain the position of holding regular parliamentary elections, on the same day as the presidential elections, and according to unofficial information of the Minister of Justice, who comes from the ranks of the Alliance for Albanians (AA), Krenar Lloga, May 8 will be the date for holding both election cycles.

"Unofficially, I know that this date will also be an official date. Anyway, the majority will have to take a position in the coming days, as well as with the opposition, and I believe this will be the date for the two election cycles," Lloga said in response to a reporter's question on whether May 8 will be the date for the elections.

First Deputy PM and Minister of Political System and Inter-Community Relations, Artan Grubi, also says that there is room to hold regular elections in May.

"I believe all political parties agree that the elections should be held together and not as early elections, because in May there is room to hold regular elections in line with our legislations, meaning both presidential and parliamentary elections, and I hope that within a few days, a joint decision will be made to hold the elections," said Grubi. 

Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Fatmir Bytyqi, says that SDSM sticks to the position to finally hold regular parliamentary elections after many years.

"The Social Democratic Union sticks to the position that there should be regular parliamentary elections, finally after many years, regular parliamentary elections should be held in our country, everything else is a matter of discussion," said Bytyqi, who attended an event with Lloga and Grubi on the 115th anniversary of Bitola Congress and Albanian Alphabet Day, organized by the Government. 

As regards whether there will be joint lists between DUI, AA and SDSM, all three say that they are open to such a thing, adding that talks are ongoing.  

"The European front is open to all political parties that support the country's European path, whether it is in joint appearance or in joint lists is a matter of agreement. We do not have a party, coalition or inter-party agreement yet for joint lists, but all options are open," Bytyqi said. 

Regarding the question of who will be the next prime minister in the last days of the government, Grubi confirmed again that it is not going to be him, but someone else proposed by Ali Ahmeti and DUI.

On whether AA will leave the coalition if there are no constitutional amendments, Lloga said that jhope should not be lost on the amendments and AA will fully support the constitutional amendments.
