Ljupcho Kocevski sworn in as country’s new Chief Prosecutor

Skopje, 15 February 2024 (MIA) – To be a state public prosecutor is a difficult and responsible task with many challenges, but I believe that with my long experience and my knowledge I can respond to the challenge, said new Chief Prosecutor, Ljupcho Kocevski, on Thursday after being sworn in before the Speaker of Parliament, Jovan Mitreski.

Kocevski underscored that transparency is one of the fundamental principles in the program delivered to the MPs and the public because, he said, transparency will act as a catalyst for accountability, responsibility, efficiency among the prosecutors, ultimately raising the public’s trust.

“The Public Prosecutor’s Office should be the sole body that will fight against corruption, and I believe that I will fulfill what I am promising. Regarding transparency, before the media I state that I and the Prosecutor’s Office will remain open to the public and available at all times regarding information of interest to the public,” said Kocevski.

The new Chief Prosecutor said he wouldn’t go into details regarding specific cases, but stressed that the Prosecutor’s Office would launch cases over all submitted reports and there would be no selectivity in the prosecution of those who commit crimes.

Parliament elected Kocevski as new Chief Prosecutor with 62 votes in favor on Tuesday.

Kocevski worked as a lawyer before his election as prosecutor in the Gostivar Higher Prosecutor's Office in 2008 and was promoted to the Public Prosecutor's Office a couple of years ago. He was also a member of the Managing Board of the Academy for Judges and Prosecutors, as well as a member of the disciplinary committee at the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
