Limani - Sanz Luque: Strengthening cooperation with UN Women through joint projects and measures

Skopje, 22 October 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Social Policy, Demography and Youth, Fatmir Limani met Tuesday in Geneva with Regional Director for UN Women Europe and Central Asia, Belén Sanz Luque, and discussed the strengthening of cooperation and support for women victims of domestic violence and their children, by ensuring the existence of shelter centers throughout the country.

A point of discussion was also support for rural women, ensuring conditions for their active participation in the labor market, and opportunities for sheltering children in preschool institutions in the environments they live in, the Ministry of Social Policy, Demography and Youth said in a press release.

This, the Ministry adds, is a double benefit because they not only remain economically independent, but their children are also involved in the preschool process.

Sanz Luque expressed support for the projects and measures for young people, with focus on young girls and their greater visibility in society.

Interlocutors agreed to strengthen cooperation through joint projects and a memorandum of cooperation in the areas the ministry is invested in.

According to the ministry, it was concluded that if laws are not implemented, they are written in vain. North Macedonia has made a significant step forward in protecting women's human rights with the adoption of the law on prevention and protection from violence against women and domestic violence and the Criminal Code amendments. ssh/ik/
