Levica satisfied with election results, says early parliamentary polls are possible
Skopje, 18 October 2021 (MIA) – The projections set out by Levica are slowly coming true, Levica leader Dimitar Apasiev told a news conference late on Sunday. “Unlike after the 2017 local elections, Levica in this year’s elections remains the fastest growing leftist movement in Europe,” he noted. Apasiev said his party candidates have been elected as councilors in almost 30 municipalities. “Levica’s progress is evident, we are satisfied with the elections. Our goal is met – Levica is now part of municipal councils,” he noted. Levica mayoral candidates have finished third and will not qualify to enter the second round. “The party will make analysis to see where we were wrong and where we did well. The general tendency is that the left-wing movement in Macedonia is moving ahead,” Apasiev said. Asked whether Levica will call its supporters to endorse some of the candidates of the other parties in the second round, Apasiev stressed that Levica will abide by its principle not to enter in a coalition with other party. However, he said, talks are possible with opposition parties depending on the municipalities. “We’ll wait to be asked formally for talks. I don’t rule out negotiations, but I don’t believe there will be official coalitions,” he said. According to the Levica leader, opposition tendencies are evident, paving the way for early parliamentary polls.
