Levica reveals Amar Mecinovic as its candidate for Skopje mayor

Skopje, 22 August 2025 (MIA) – The party Levica announced Friday that its MP Amar Mecinovic will run for mayor of Skopje in the October local elections.
“In these elections, we will raise those issue no one has any interest in raising. The candidacy is the result of two factors – the first one being that despite serving a member of Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia, I had a three-year mandate as a councillor in the City of Skopje Council, which it was, in my opinion, the most dysfunctional council in the history of the City of Skopje. Many things in the interest of the citizens weren’t done. Honestly, I believe that our councillors had fought for issues that will remain topical in our campaign for the City of Skopje,” said Mecinovic.
Speaking at a news conference, he presented his priorities, namely public transportation, improving the cleanliness of the city, the General Urban Plan and the fight against air pollution amongst others.
“Levica wants to unite all those who are against VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM. Public transportation will be top priority. Money and power are on their side, but they have no answer to what we are offering. This is our fight and our story for our Skopje. The citizens have to be aware that they vote for a political will, which had contributed now to us having no buses,” stated Mecinovic.
Levica leader Dimitar Apasiev, after revealing his party’s candidate for Skopje mayor, said Levica will run with a record-breaking number of candidates for mayors.
“This year we will have over 20 candidates after having only eight who ran in the previous elections. In the previous ones, we had 38 councillor seats, this year there are over 62. This shows that Levica is turning from small into mid-to-large political party,” stated Apasiev.
