Levica MP initiates oversight hearing over Kochani tragedy

Skopje, 3 April 2025 (MIA) – Levica MP Borislav Krmov announced Thursday he has initiated an oversight hearing to be held in the wake of the Kochani tragedy in order to shed light on the omissions made.
“In these moments, as the shock from the unimaginable national tragedy in Kochani still hasn’t died down, we, as MPs and as assembly, most notably the MPs representing the third electoral district, have to take moral responsibility. Thus, being an MP from the third electoral district, today I’m filing an initiative for an oversight hearing in Parliament to be held involving the disaster that had happened in Kochani. We’re calling on all parties,” Krmov told a news conference adding the initiative will be forwarded to all other parties.
We expect the initiative to be endorsed, he stressed.
The hearing, the MP said, is planned to take place as part of the standing inquiry committee on protection of civil freedoms and rights, chaired by Levica MP Dimitar Apasiev. “However, we are open [the hearing] to take place in any other committee that suits both the ruling majority and the rest of the opposition,” Krmov said.
The Levica MP called on the lawmakers to take immediate action “to find the answers the public needs.”
“Unfortunately, we’re seeing VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM trading blows via the media as to whether an oversight or an inquiry hearing is needed, whether it is needed only for the Kochani disaster or for the other disasters as well. We think there is no time for that, we had enough time to rest, we need to act now. We must see where the state bodies failed, why this had happened and who is responsible for that,” stressed Krmov.
