Let’s work together to ensure that Skopje is a truly modern city: mayor
Skopje, 26 July 2022 (MIA) – Skopje Mayor Danela Arsovska on Tuesday called on everyone to "work together to ensure that Skopje is a better, more modern place to live."
“I believe we should look ahead. Not only should we mention the victims of the tragic event that took place on the day of the catastrophic earthquake that hit Skopje, we should also focus on the fact that Skopje grew from a metropolis to a city of solidarity, coexistence, a city where multiple nations helped rebuild it from the rubble,” Arsovska said after laying flowers onto the monument honoring the victims of the 1963 earthquake at the Butel City Cemetery.
She emphasized that she wants all the people of Skopje to work together to make it a modern place to live, and for them to care about the things left behind by previous generations, and to make it better for future ones.
Based on a proposal put forward by Arsovska, the Council of the City of Skopje at yesterday’s session, under Article 36 of the Law on Local Self-government, the Law on Public Institutions and the Law on Urban Planning, decided to allow the establishment the Kenzo Tange Public Urbanism Institution of Skopje.
“The goal of this institution is to raise the standards and the quality of performing work related to urban planning and securing the optimal conditions for performing tasks determined by the Law on Urban Planning, while eliminating outside public procurements and tenders for projecting objects in the City of Skopje,” the City of Skopje says on its website. dk/ba/
