Lashkoska: Realizing projects for sustainable, comprehensive and balanced development

Skopje, 5 August 2025 (MIA) - We are realizing projects for a sustainable, comprehensive and balanced development of our country, in line with the needs of the citizens, said Deputy Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Ane Lashkoska on Tuesday, attending an event with Gevgelija’s Mayor Andon Saramandov marking the official beginning of construction on a water supply network, as well as sanitary and stormwater sewer systems in Urban Block 4.4 in the Municipality of Gevgelija.

According to the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, the goal of the project is to provide quality drinking water, collect wastewater from buildings, and manage stormwater runoff.

The realization of the project, according to the Ministry, will ensure better communal services and raise the quality of life for over 2.500 citizens living in this part of the Municipality of Gevgelija, while also protecting the environment and biodiversity.

“The protection and preservation of the biodiversity of the Vardar River through the construction of the wastewater sewer system will allow for the purification of wastewater at the existing treatment facility before it is released into the waters of the Vardar. This is especially important for the quality of river water and, on the other hand, increases the significance of this project and the awareness of the value and complexity of the environment, as well as the necessary activities we need to take to protect and preserve the water of this largest Macedonian river and its biodiversity,” Lashkoska said.

Lashkoska highlighted the importance of joint work on raising public awareness and the responsibility of every individual.

“With the realization of this, and all of our projects, as a Government and a Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning, we are contributing to a sustainable, comprehensive and balanced development of our country, in line with the needs of the citizens, while also making a serious stride with which we are accelerating the changes for a sustainable development of the economy and infrastructure and a better living standard, for all our citizens equally,” Lashkoska said.

The Ministry said the total value of the construction project stood at EUR 572.179 or Mden 48.233.215, funds secured by the Government through a loan from the European Investment Bank.
