Lafchiski to take part in NATO's highest military authority meeting

Skopje, 14 January 2025 (MIA) — The country's Chief of Defense, Major General Sashko Lafchiski, will attend a Chiefs of Defense meeting of NATO's highest military authority, the Military Committee, in Brussels on Jan 15-16.

According to the Ministry of Defense in a press release, the NATO defense chiefs will discuss issues of strategic importance to the Alliance, while focusing on cooperation with partners and unified responses to global challenges.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will join the Military Committee for the opening session to address the Alliance's key priorities and challenges.

During several sessions, the allied chiefs of defense will discuss the different manifestations of pervasive instability around the globe as well as military cooperation, standardization and interoperability.

There will be thematic sessions on the Global South and the Indo-Pacific, with briefings on the strategic security situation of both regions, their regional challenges and implications for worldwide security.

Maj. Gen. Lafchiski will also visit the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe at Mons, Belgium, as well as the country's NATO delegation deployed in Mons and Brussels.

The Military Committee is the senior military authority in NATO and the oldest permanent body in NATO after the North Atlantic Council, both having been formed only months after the Alliance came into being.

It meets at its highest level, the level of Chiefs of Defense, usually three times a year. Two of these meetings are held at NATO Headquarters and a NATO member country hosts the third in the form of a Military Committee Conference. mr/
