Krushevo and Elbasan present cross border cooperation project

Krushevo, 26 May 2023 (MIA) – The cross border cooperation project “Krushevo and Elbasan – Acknowledged Tourism Cross Border Destination” is one of the most successful projects of the IPA III programme financed by the European Union - this was highlighted at Friday’s presentation of the Project at the Mechkin Kamen paragliding take off area, attended by EU Ambassador David Geer, representatives of the Ministry of Local Self-Government and the Mayors of Elbasan and Krushevo.

“We are pleased with the cooperation with Krushevo, the EU has contributed a lot to the development of the city. And there will be other projects too, because as we near the process towards the EU, a lot of changes will take place on the ground, not only in Krushevo, but also in many areas of social life,” said EU Ambassador David Geer.

Krushevo is using a lot of EU funds for the improvement of its infrastructure, and the cross border cooperation with Elbasan, Albania, is the latest project.

“The project is in its final stage, it should be completed in a year. The tourism aspects of Krushevo are growing at a fast pace,” said Tome Hristoski, the Mayor of Krushevo.

The first cross border cooperation between Krushevo and Elbasan is the basis for all other opportunities for cooperation available to the two cities.

“Elbasan is one of the larger municipalities in Albania, and it has the same topography as Krushevo. We have excellent cooperation with Krushevo, and our goal is to have more tourism, covering the entire region,” said Gledian Llatja, the Mayor of Elbasan, Albania.

After the presentation of the project, Tatjana Janeska from the Ministry of Local Self-Government stressed that the cross border cooperation project is one of the most successful ones in the IPA III programme.

“This project encourages the development of active tourism in a cross border area with the development of the appropriate, modern infrastructure that will meet the standards for further implementation and development of sustainable tourism,” said Janeska.
