Kovachevski: VMRO-DPMNE leadership in irrational discussion on constitutional revision

Skopje, 8 September 2023 (MIA) - Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said Friday the current discussion on the constitutional revision is rational on the part of the ruling coalition but exceptionally irrational from the VMRO-DPMNE leadership, highlighting the need for discussion based on facts.

"You can see that the public has no remarks regarding the content of the amendments and the procedure. I believe that we should eventually endorse the required decisions and open the chapters for sooner EU accession. This is a strategic decision, everything else is running away from reality and responsibility, putting the country back in isolation and uncertainty, as seen during the 11 years of the past government, which created a model of cultural-historic-financial engineering that benefited no one, while the country stagnated in all fields and did not move an inch in its Euro-Atlantic integration. In comparison, Croatia started the journey together with us, they have already introduced the euro, are part of the EU and Schengen, while we are still talking about a decision that will result in the opening of accession chapters," PM Kovachevski told reporters.

The main decision that MPs have to make, he added, is to vote for Europe and continuation of the country's Euro-integration path.

"Lawmakers decide in line with the mandate they have received. The main decision they have to make is to vote for Europe and continuation of the country's Euro-integration path. We have started this process that has been welcomed by all strategic partners - United States and EU," underlined Kovachevski.
